Influence of Tree Age on the Chemical Composition of Radiata Pine

چکیده

The distribution of extractives, lignin, and carbohydrates in radiata pine and their variation with tree age are reviewed. Extractives, their nature, and amount depend on the heartwood content of the tree, and thus upon wood age. Lignin decreases in the pith-to-bark sequence; pentosans content decreases over the first 10-15 growth rings from the pith, after which it is approximately constant. Cellulose content of radiata pine increases over the first 10-15 growth rings from the pith, after which it is approximately constant. The carbohydrates in radiata pine are also briefly described.

Can understorey native woodland plant species regenerate under exotic pine plantations using natural succession?

Forestry industry in many European countries has begun to focus on sustainable forest management practices, and consequently, a greater emphasis is now being placed on the restoration and enhancement of native woodlands in places where intensive forestry is nowadays not highly profitable. In this context, we evaluate the natural regeneration of native oak woodland vegetation under cultivated st...

Fire Regimes and Resultant Forest Structure in the Native Aio Nuevo Monterey Pine (Pinus radiata) Forest, California

-Native Monterey pine (Pinus radiata) forests occur in five populations on the west coast of North America. High severity fire has been reported to be the main disturbance agent that initiates seedling establishment for this species. To investigate the impacts of fire in this ecosystem, age structure and fire history data were collected from the native Ano Nuevo Monterey pine forest near Santa ...

Factors influencing infection of mechanical wounds by Fusarium circinatum on Monterey pines

Pitch canker, caused by the fungus Fusarium circinatum , is a disease affecting many pine tree species. In California, Pinus radiata (Monterey pine) is the principal pine host affected by pitch canker. This investigation into factors affecting infection frequency by F. circinatum of P. radiata examined the influence of: (i) wound size; (ii) relative humidity; (iii) time of inoculation; (iv) ino...
